Presbyterian School Head Serves on TANS Board

Presbyterian School is proud to announce that Head of School, Ray Johnson, has been asked to serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Non-Public Schools (TANS).  Mr. Johnson will represent the association’s members from Harris County, which is approximately 55 schools.

The primary purpose of TANS is to look out for the best interests of nonpublic schools in Texas.  TANS has been a strong advocate of non-public education in Texas, involving itself not only in legislative affairs, but also in issues involving the Texas Education Agency and the State Board of Education.  TANS initiated the development of the accrediting umbrella organization known as TEPSAC (Texas Private School Accreditation Commission), freeing the Texas Education Agency of the major task of non-public school accreditation, one which took people and funds away from the public sector.

The Texas Association of Non-Public Schools (TANS) was organized in 1967 for the following purposes:

  • To provide a framework for communication and cooperation among    various types and groups of private schools and between non-public schools and their public school counterparts and the Texas Education Agency
  • To encourage vigorous diversity in education
  • To ensure that Texas families have a realistic choice of schools for their children
  • To foster close sharing by non-public schools in the state's educational task
  • To assist in sound management of the state's educational dollars
  • To promote an equitable and effective implementation of federal andstate legislation relative to educational opportunities for all children
  • To serves as a watchdog for its non-public schools.
