Presbyterian Panthers Defend their Championship
The Presbyterian School Varsity basketball team has been virtually undefeated in the Greater Houston Athletic Conference for the past two years, posting only two losses in two years. The panthers claimed the Junior Varsity basketball conference championship for the 2003-2004 school year and are playing hard to keep their championship title as a Varsity team for the 2004-2005 school year.
In this season, the Presbyterian School Varsity basketball team is 7-2, with a recent win against the Kinkaid School. Presbyterian School won 56-37 with leading scorers, Timothy Frazier earning 16 points and Hunter Comiskey with 10 points. In addition to Timothy Frazier, people should watch out for standout player, William Young, the only seventh grader on the Varsity team! Presbyterian School Director of Athletics, Steve Ryan comments that the key to this team’s success is the “hard work, commitment and time dedicated to the sport that many of these players love”. Coach Ryan tries to teach students not only how to play basketball well, but also the important life skills that this sport teaches such as team work and cooperation.
The Varsity basketball team’s infectious winning spirit has caught on with many other panther teams at Presbyterian School. The current Junior Varsity basketball team also recently posted a win against the Kinkaid School (46-27) with high scorers, Troy Rockrise with 14 points and Hunter Houston with 12 points. Junior Varsity basketball players to watch are Troy Rockrise, Hunter Houston and Sam White. Another virtually undefeated team is the girls’ soccer team who has had only one loss this season! Consistent leading scorers are sixth grader, Jacey Bowers and seventh grader, Elizabeth Hay. The girls’ soccer team also stands in contention for the 2004-2005 Greater Houston Athletic Conference championship.
