main Campus

Presbyterian School is an independent, coeducational day school which is committed to the development of the fullest potential of each of its students.  Presbyterian School is composed of three divisions: an Early Childhood division, ages 3 (Beta class) through Prekindergarten, a Lower School division, Kindergarten through grade four, and a Middle School division, fifth through eighth grade. All divisions use developmentally appropriate and innovative teaching strategies to respond to the learning needs of each of its students.

Presbyterian School is located in the state-of-the-art facility of First Presbyterian Church of Houston.  Presbyterian School counts among its neighbors institutions of learning and the arts such as Rice University, The Museum of Natural Science, Houston's Medical Center, The Houston Childrens' Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts and St. Thomas University.  Thus Presbyterian School forms part of an archipelago of the arts and academia located in Houston's vibrant Museum District.  These institutions and more serve as partners and / or resources in the creation of an outstanding independent school education for the over 540 girls and boys of Presbyterian School.

At Presbyterian School, students benefit from modern wireless facilities on the main campus, which include two learning commons featuring over 35,000 books, four fully-equipped science labs, two art rooms -including an in-house kiln, two music rooms, an Academic Enrichment Center, two gymnasiums, a 1200-seat theatre, sanctuary, and chapel.

outdoor education campus

Presbyterian School has expanded its campus to include a 14-acre Outdoor Education Campus (OEC) less than five miles from the school. The outdoor campus is located just south of the Texas Medical Center on Highway 288 (9100 South Freeway) and is easily accessible by school bus.  A wide array of recent research has indicated that contact with nature fosters children’s health, productivity, maturation and well-being.  These studies reveal that contact with nature encourages intellectual performance and problem solving in addition to fostering emotional and social development.  With this new Outdoor Education Campus, our children will find enrichment and more opportunities to develop to their fullest God-given potential.  The Outdoor Education Campus will provide space for environmental learning, sports and athletics, nature trails, play areas and outdoor worship.

To get to the Outdoor Education Campus, drive south on Highway 288, past the 610 Loop and take the Reed Road exit.  The OEC is located on the right.   Click here to view a map to the OEC.  Located just south of the Texas Medical Center on Highway 288 (9100 South Freeway), the Presbyterian School's Outdoor Education Campus (OEC) serves students in areas of environmental learning, sports and athletics, nature trails, play areas and outdoor worship.

Our school motto tells us that as children of God at Presbyterian School, we respect ourselves, each other and the environment. While our children can learn about the importance of conservation and environmental science in the classroom, not all learning can take place indoors.  To learn about the great outdoors, students need to be outdoors.  Moreover, an outdoor chapel on this new campus will give Presbyterian School students more time and experience with the natural world that God created.

The Outdoor Education Campus includes the following:

Pavilion and Outdoor Education Area

The Pavilion is composed of an outdoor education area, classroom space, an athletic training room, locker rooms, teacher work spaces, restrooms, a concession area and administrative offices. The classroom and open outdoor education spaces have the flexibility to be arranged in a variety of set-ups to allow for varied teaching and meeting purposes, both indoor and outdoor.

Two Athletic Fields

Students practice and play field hockey, football, lacrosse and soccer on two athletic fields.  Our athletic fields are equipped with 2 wireless score boards and 2 bleachers.  Beyond athletic purposes, the fields are used for special school wide events including Back to School BBQ and Field Day.

8 Lane Track

Students utilize the 8 lane regulation size track for cross country and track and field sports.  In addition to our sports, the track is utilized for city wide meets and the Annual Lower School Fun Run.  The track is adjacent to the shot put ring, discus ring and high jump area.  The track is composed of all weather surface.

Outdoor Chapel

The outdoor chapel provides space for students to begin their time in the Outdoor Education Campus with prayer, praise and personal reflection. The outdoor chapel, with handicap access, is constructed from thickset stone pavers.  The wooden benches forming a semi-circle around the chapel provide seating for 200 people.

Nature Garden Areas and Cross Country Trail
The cross country trail offers another venue for our cross country runners.  In addition to students, parents and visitors enjoy walking along the crushed granite nature trail.  The nature garden areas serve as additional outdoor classroom space for teachers and students to explore their outdoor learning through insect life, gardening and archeological digs.

Play Area

The play area is an open area made of rolling hills and green space.  Students find enjoyment in this space, whether it is by letting their imagination run wild or by finding a hilltop spot to do their homework.
