Team Information

Football - Boys Varsity

Boys Football (7th-8th Grade)

Coaches: Darnell Cleary (Head Coach) and Stephen Spears (Asst. Coach)

Practices & Meets: Pre-season practice will begin August 1 at the OEC and will be held Monday-Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. There is no preseason transportation provided for students. Beginning August 16, practices will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. daily at the OEC or Rice University's Bubble. Players are transported to and from the OEC via bus. Pick up will be at Palm Court at 5:15 p.m. For practices conducted at Rice University's Bubble, parents must pick up at the Bubble at the conclusion of the practice. Times will be confirmed by the coach when the season begins. It is strongly recommended that all players planning to participate in football work out this summer to acclimate to the strenuous nature of the sport in the Texas heat.

Required Gear: Athletes need a pair of football cleats – we prefer black. Two pairs of compression shorts are necessary as well. These compressions shorts are the kind that hold thigh pads, kidney pads and butt pads in them. They can be purchased at Academy and Dick's Sporting Goods. Players need to wear Presbyterian School shorts to practices and a school logo t-shirt. Players need to bring a water bottle to school each day and will be allowed to drink water during class to hydrate sufficiently. The coaches reiterate the importance of attending summer workouts for speed and conditioning.

Physicals and Required Forms:  The Physical Examination Form is required for participation in sports at Presbyterian School. Students are not allowed to begin practice until this is completed. The Physical Examination Form is part of the 2022-23 Required School Forms accessible on the school website Parent Portal at www.pshouston.org/parentportal. If you have any questions regarding forms, please email Registrar, Judy Ligon at jligon@pshouston.org

Athletic Orthopedics & Knee Center (AOK) is the School's official provider of game day athletic trainers. They are offering $25 walk-in appointments for annual student physicals at their center. Feel free to use them as a place to get physical exams completed. Click here for more information.

Athletic Volunteers
Each team needs a team parent to arrange team snacks, etc. If you are interested in assisting, please contact the coach to volunteer. Our football team also needs volunteers for the sideline chain crew, timekeeper and possibly game filmer. If you can fill one of these important positions, please contact Coach Hertlein or Coach Baltodano.
