One of the tough issues about playing golf is that we have limited space for players to practice at Hermann Park GC. We are grateful for the privilege to conduct practice on this public course and realize that we are obligated to trim the squad to a maximum of 8 members as a result. This reality translates to an advantage for our more experienced players. If you are a beginner, the path is more difficult. I would advise all who are contemplating trying out to consider this benchmark: If you can break 50 in a nine-hole match, you have a good chance of making the team. If you have never played in a competitive match, my advice is to take lessons in preparation for trying out next season. I am happy to help you learn the game or to help you find an instructor. The teams that we play against in our league are intermediate to experienced players and most shoot in the 30's and 40's in our matches. A basic knowledge of the rules, understanding golf etiquette, and scoring under 50 are considerations as we determine our roster. We welcome everyone to try out, but bear this in mind as you plan.
We will have tryouts at Hermann Park on Feb. 8th, 9th, 10th, 16th, and 17th. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we will have our roster determined Feb. 18th.
If you have questions about the tryout, please call Coach Hertlein. (713) 620-6358. We are pleased to help any young aspiring golfer and encourage you to pursue this great game.
