Position Title: Early Childhood/Lower School (EC/LS) Counselor
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Heads of Early Childhood and Lower School
Successful candidates for this position should, first and foremost, demonstrate a singular passion for working with students aged 3-10 years along with their families. Candidates must be licensed or licensed-eligible in the State of Texas as a Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or the equivalent. Experience working in a school setting will also be considered a distinctly positive quality.
More specifically, the EC/LS Counselor will work very closely with students, parents, and teachers in support of the social, emotional, academic, and spiritual growth and development of the School’s youngest students. Working with the Director of Wellness, the School Nurse, the Middle School Counselor, and the School Chaplain, the EC/LS Counselor is a part of the School’s comprehensive Wellness Team and must be knowledgeable of and comfortable discussing the wide range of learning differences and learning styles that young children possess. A familiarity with the documentation of these learning differences along with their accommodations and remediations is also crucial for this position. Certification as a Diagnostician is not required but is a desirable additional qualification. In addition to these more direct services, the EC/LS Counselor will also be responsible for broader educational programming to include Parent Education visioning and execution, so the successful candidate will be comfortable planning and leading informational presentations in a variety of settings.
