FROM THE ALUMNI BOARD VP

I attended Presbyterian School from Beta through 8th grade. Presbyterian was such a great foundation for my education and was instrumental in creating the person I am today.

Currently, I am an associate attorney at Wilson, Cribbs & Goren, P.C. where I practice commercial real estate law. After moving away to attend the University of Texas at Austin, I returned to Houston for law school and learned that Presbyterian was beginning to develop an alumni association. I was eager to participate and help establish an organization that would give alumni an opportunity to stay connected, both with each other and the school.

Serving on the board has been a great way to reconnect with old classmates and meet other alumni. It has given me an opportunity to give back to the school that gave me so much growing up.

If you are interested in getting involved, or learning about what it takes to serve on the board, I encourage you to reach out to any current alumni board members. We hope to see you at future reunions!

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

PS Alum Takes on Great Adventure!

My name is Eva Kramer, and I'm a graduate of the 2013 class at Presbyterian school. Currently, I'm on a gap year before I attend college at UNT in Denton, Texas for photojournalism in the fall of 2018. I live in Kathmandu, Nepal teaching English to ESL students grades 2-5.

I first had the idea of taking a gap year my sophomore year of high school after reading the PS alumni magazine. It highlighted several PS grads taking gap years after high school to volunteer all over the world. I loved the concept that I could use my time not only to broaden my horizons and mature, but also to serve others in a third world country. Around the time of the publication, the catastrophic earthquake hit Nepal, decimating the country. This is how I made the decision to spend most of my gap year there. I knew I had the skills from my Creative Writing program at HSPVA to help Nepali children learn the fundamentals of English and writing.

I spent the next two years raising all the funds I needed. I began my journey in Northern Iraq, but after one month, the war hit, so I moved to Tanzania, Africa to an orphanage for the next month until I could begin my long-term assignment in Nepal. I'm currently in month 3 in Nepal, and it continues to get better as I adjust to all the challenges of living in a third world.

I am starting a "Countries Around the World" project with my classes in order to help them learn about various cultures different from their own. I am so grateful to everyone that supported me in my efforts to get to Nepal. I look forward to sharing more when I get back!
