While Presbyterian School does not have any active or presumptive cases of Coronavirus COVID-19, we are taking proactive steps to increase our readiness for meeting the challenges of COVID-19. In our All-School Faculty meeting yesterday, we talked specifically about the unprecedented nature of this event. We appreciate your patience and your understanding as we work through these uncertain days together. We are confident that should the need arise, Presbyterian School will be able to deliver distance learning to families PK3 - 8th grade. While we can't top the experience of being at Presbyterian School every day, we are committed to maintaining the continuity of our program for all students. Each division has outlined a plan for distance learning that will be communicated to parents in the event we close school. We have a network of schools, both nationally and internationally, who have already begun distance learning in response to this crisis. We are learning much from our colleagues around the world as they share their resources, best practices, and lessons learned "on the go." As we continue to watch and monitor the evolution of COVID-19, there are some specific action steps that we are asking our community to take this week. - Parents, please make sure you are subscribed to your teacher's blog on the School website. Early Childhood and Lower School teachers will be utilizing their class blogs to communicate distance learning plans to families. Blog posts are only pushed out to constituents who have subscribed. This is not an automatic process and must be done manually by parents. View instructions on how to subscribe. If you need assistance with subscribing to a blog, please email or call Andrea Lawless, Director of Communications at 713.620.6365.
- Students will be asked to bring home school books, binders, iPads (if applicable), etc. over Spring Break. Should the need arise to close school with minimal warning during the Break, we would like our students to be prepared and have their materials with them at home. Lower and Middle School teachers will help to remind students to take home these items on the remaining days of this week before the start of Spring Break.
- Middle School students are asked to do two things. First, students should familiarize themselves with logging in and out of Schoology. Second, students should visit the Self Service App on their iPads in order to download Zoom, the live video application that will be used for distance learning. If students need assistance with either task, they should email Carla Isenhower, Director of Technology.
We appreciate your patience and partnership as we begin to undertake the challenges associated with COVID-19. We are committed to transparent and open communication and hope you will reach out to the School if you have any concerns. |
