School Choirs
Resound
let your voice be heard!
Presbyterian School Choirs are an integral part of the school community, a community that raises its voice together in weekly chapel and music classes. The PS Choirs serve the School in all-school chapels and as ambassadors in the Houston community singing the national anthem at sporting events or performing at senior adult retirement homes. Our choirs kick off the holiday season with a Candlelight Concert and show us their growth over the year at their Spring Concerts. The choirs exemplify the benefits of working together toward a common goal and sharing beauty, joy, and thoughtful reflection with listeners.
The School offers the following choirs:
- Cub Choir is our entry level choir for 3rd and 4th graders. This group meets on Wednesday mornings before school where they work to develop their ears and their singing voices through training in the fundamentals of sound production. Choristers learn age-appropriate song literature, layering artistic elements such dynamics and legato singing onto the fundamentals.
- Panther Singers our advanced Lower School choir, is an elect choir which rehearses during the school day. This group regularly studies and performs two and three part treble music, challenging its members to grow in part independence as they continue to refine their tone and hone their artistry.
- 6th Grade Choir incorporates every 6th grade student. New PS students join returning students and build musical skills and community through singing. 6th grade choir is a required class in the 6th grade fine arts rotation. Music instruction is taught all three years of middle school so both new and returning students feel prepared and confident to perform in front of an audience including auditioning for the annual 8th grade musical.
- Main Men is the 7th and 8th grade boys choir. Main Men and Main Street Singers come together in rehearsal before performance. As part of the most advanced choir in the School, these students have strong music reading skills and vocal technique and enjoy additional opportunities for solos.
- Main Street Singers is the 7th and 8th grade girls choir. Main Men and Main Street Singers come together in rehearsal before performance. As part of the most advanced choir in the School, these students have strong music reading skills and vocal technique and enjoy additional opportunities for solos.
