Middle School Counselor

The Opportunity:
Position Title: Middle School Counselor
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Head of Middle School

Successful candidates for this position should, first and foremost, demonstrate a singular passion for working with students aged 11-15 years along with their families.  Candidates must be licensed or licensed eligible in the State of Texas as a Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or the equivalent.  Experience working in a school setting will also be considered a distinctly positive quality-

More specifically, the Counselor will work very closely with students, parents, and teachers in support of the social, emotional, academic, and spiritual growth and development of the School’s Middle School students.  Working with the Director of Wellness, the School Nurse, the EC/LS Counselor, and the School Chaplain, the Middle School Counselor is a part of the School’s comprehensive Wellness Team and must be knowledgeable of and comfortable discussing the wide range of learning differences and learning styles that young children possess.  A familiarity with the documentation of these learning differences along with their accommodations and remediations is also crucial for this position. Certification as a Diagnostician is not required but is a desirable additional qualification.  Finally, the Middle School Counselor will lead a smaller Student Support Team in the Middle School consisting of the Chaplain, the Middle School Dean of Students, and the Associate Head of Middle School.

In addition to these more direct services, the Middle School Counselor will also be responsible for broader educational programming to include Parent Education visioning and execution, so the successful candidate will be comfortable planning and leading informational presentations in a variety of settings.
