Presbyterian School 8th Grade Student Wins Geography Bee

The Kissimee River flows into Lake Okeechobee in what state that borders the Gulf of Mexico? Crater Lake National Park is located near Klamath Falls in what U. S. State? Would you be able to answer these questions?  Geographic questions like this and many others were presented to Presbyterian School students recently at the school’s Geography Bee.  Presbyterian School is proud to congratulate eighth grader, Tita Curtain, who won the school’s Geography Bee.  Tita competed against students in fourth through eighth grades.  Second place went to eighth grader, Mia D’Andrea.  Tita Curtain will now be eligible to qualify for the State Geography Bee which will be held April 1.  Winners from the State Geography Bee will contend in the nationwide Geography Bee that is held in Washington D.C. on May 22-25.

Presbyterian School 4th-8th grade students tested their geographic knowledge against classmates.  The top two students in 4th-8th grades qualified to compete in the School Geography Bee. These included: Fourth graders, Olivia Garcia and Samuel Chase, Fifth Graders, Henry Crain and Ari Petty, Sixth Graders, Lucas Vittor and Chance Coleman, Seventh Graders, Tommy Murray and Alex Gatto and Eighth Graders, Tita Curtain and Mia D’Andrea.

Each year in the United States, thousands of students in grades four through eight participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society.  The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography.
