After School Classes at Presbyterian 

After School enrichment classes are conveniently offered on campus at the end of the school day. These classes provide a wide array of opportunities for students to continue daily exploration. Students may register for a variety of optional activities led by PS staff and outsourced professionals. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. All students are encouraged to register early as classes fill quickly. After School class registration is available on the School’s website Parent Portal.

Dance for Kidz (PreKindergarten 3- PreKindergarten 4)
Calling all future Ballerinas and Tap stars! Dance for Kidz will be offering Ballet and Tap classes for all PreKindergarten 3 and PreKindergarten 4 students. The mission is to instill a love for dance, build self-confidence, help children develop strong technique, and to make it fun! Class instruction is centered on teaching the basic fundamentals of ballet and tap dance in creative ways. In the Fall, each class will have two parties, a costume dance party in October and a Christmas Dance party in December. We encourage dancers of every level and strive to bring out the best in each student with caring instruction, hoping to imprint a love of dancing in your child's heart. 

 

Explore the Culture of China (4th - 5th grade)
No prior knowledge of Mandarin is required. As a symbol of eastern civilization, the culture of China is enriched by a long history and multi-ethnic groups. In a weekly 60-minute lesson, students will be able to learn the authentic language and experience the rich culture of China, as potential bilinguals. The curriculum includes basic Mandarin communication and exploring the culture. The instructors are native speakers of Mandarin and are highly capable of delivering the lesson both in Mandarin and English.

 

Fencing(1st - 5th grade)
Fencing is the sport of knights and swashbucklers. We will teach you to move like a fencer, wield your sword, and compete with your classmates. You will learn fundamental fencing skills through games and other activities. Fencing fosters creativity, self-discipline, physical and mental quickness, and good sportsmanship.  

  

Glassell Mixed Media (PreKindergarten 4 - 5th grade)
The Glassell Junior School is an art school for young people, devoted to nurturing creativity and fostering an appreciation of the arts and an awareness of the world. Students who enroll in this course will gain experience using a variety of media such as clay, tempera, watercolor, oil, and chalk pastels.

 

Imagination Playground (PreKindergarten 3 - PreKindergarten 4) 
Allow your child to create imaginary places, dramatic scenarios and endless fun in this child-directed and open-ended play space. The blocks are deliberately oversized, so students will be more likely to help each other with them. The simple act of matching and contrasting blocks according to their attributes can help younger students learn geometric shapes and patterns.  Students can learn to apply lessons on basic engineering, architecture, and physics. Children will participate in a healthy social, emotional and intellectually developed atmosphere in a fun and mobile class. With Imagination Playground, block- play becomes larger-than-life encouraging kids to play together in groups and have fun! 

  

ISEE Test Prep (8th grade)
The program begins with a diagnostic test that provides younger students with an introduction to the ISEE in particular and the requirements of standardized testing in general. Initially, our instruction focuses on the logic and academic substance of the test, with close attention to how the content overlaps with and diverges from the student's coursework at school. Tutors teach and review verbal reasoning skills, math concepts and algorithms, critical reading methods, and mnemonics to learn recurrent vocabulary. As the program progresses and their official test date nears, students learn to apply this knowledge as well as specific test-taking strategies through drills, homework, and timed practice tests.  

  

K.I.N.G. Chess (Kindergarten - 4th grade)
K.I.N.G. Chess (Knowledge Influencing the Next Generation) is dedicated to providing a healthy, encouraging and interesting learning environment while developing and enhancing creative and critical thinking amongst today's youth. During each session participants learn the game's history, pieces, values, proper movements, strategies, and a general level of mastery. Our aim is not only to develop a skilled chess player, but more importantly to create cognitive exercises and activities that will enhance critical thinking skills. Increasing these skills builds character, increases patience, and promotes a healthy self-esteem to help shape tomorrow's leaders. Students will also have the option to be nationally rated by the United States Chess Federation during competitive tournaments. 

  

Little Birdies Golf Academy (Kindergarten - 4th grade)
Little Birdies Golf Academy (LBGA) is an innovative new series of mobile classes/lessons targeted at introducing and teaching youth the historic and life-long game of Golf.  We utilize lessons that teach the intricacies of the whole game of golf, everything from the history of the game, to the scoring, to the full-swing, to putting, chipping, bunker-play all while incorporating key character traits in every lesson needed for the game of golf as well as life. Discipline, Integrity, Focus, Perseverance, Goal-Setting, Humility, and Respect are character traits that we value deeply at LBGA and believe are universal in the lives of successful individuals; our staff of golf instructors instill these traits in our Little Birdies throughout the academy. Every practice has the perfect combination providing exercise both to the body as well as the mind. Students will be using metal golf clubs in this class. 

 

Little Mandarin Speakers (PreKindergarten 4 - 1st grade)
This lesson is for beginners. In a weekly 60-minute lesson, the students will be able to have an authentic Chinese language and culture experience. During the lesson, they will learn basic communication language and strategies to master the language, which will prepare the students as potential bilinguals to cope with future challenges and develop a solid personal growth. It's a lot of fun!  

  

Little Singing Poets (2nd - 3rd grade)
This lesson is for beginners. In a weekly 60-minute lesson, the students will be able to experience storytelling and role playing activities in Mandarin. They could also learn Mandarin songs by reciting a poem with being immersed in a world of music. The instructors are native speakers of Mandarin and are highly capable of delivering the lesson both in Mandarin and English. 

  

Mad Science (Kindergarten - 2nd grade)
Calling all Jr. Mad Scientists!  Put on your goggles and dust off those lab coats, it is time for some crazy fun SCIENCE.  Explore different themes every week and take home a project to continue to learn and have fun at home. We will be taking a journey into Outer Space with several NASA-based classes!  We will also cover an array of science themes such as sea life, robotics, technology, energy and so much more! Classes will be interactive, hands-on and a take-home in every class so students will continue to learn at home.

  

Mad About Hula Hoops (Kindergarten - 4th grade) 
Do you want to learn a lot of impressive hula hoop tricks? Do you want to perform a halftime show for 'The Houston Dynamo'?! Then Mad About Hoops is the class for you! Hula Hooping is a great way to improve balance and coordination while burning up to 400 calories per hour. Fitness has never been so much fun! Each class will have age appropriate stretching combined with hula hoop fitness and games for both boys and girls of all skill levels. 

  

Soccer Shots Classic (PreKindergarten 3 - Pre-Kindergarten 4)
Soccer Shots is a uniquely designed program that will introduce soccer to your child in a fun, safe, and controlled environment. Each week, our classes will offer basic soccer skills, fun games, competitions, and prizes to your child. The program also emphasizes character-forming lessons such as respect, honesty, sharing, teamwork, patience, and encouragement. 

 

Soccer Shots Premier (Kindergarten - 2nd grade)
Soccer Shots is a uniquely designed program that will introduce soccer to your child in a fun, safe, and controlled environment. Each week, our classes will offer basic soccer skills, fun games, competitions, and prizes to your child. The program also emphasizes character-forming lessons such as respect, honesty, sharing, teamwork, patience, and encouragement. 

  

South Coast Lacrosse (PreKindergarten 4 - 2nd grade)
Lacrosse if the fastest growing game in America. It's fun, fast and a great way for young players to learn motor skills. Students will learn fundamentals of the game, physical development and confidence-building characteristics. 

 

Strategic Gaming (5th - 8th grade)
Strategic Games Society is a class devoted to playing games of all types, including board games, card games, role-playing games, and the occasional war game. Innovative methodology for the development of 21st century life skills through the instruction of strategy & thinking games. During the course, the concepts are applied to real life situations, allowing children to make a transference from game scenarios to real life experiences and scholastic achievements. 

 

Tae Kwon Do (PreKindergarten 4 - 4th grade)
Allow your child to take part in the fun, fitness and techniques of Tae Kwon Do! A fun way to boost your child's confidence, improve self-discipline and achieve their goals. There is no limit to enrollment, however students must be registered to participate. 

  

Vivo Private Piano Lessons (PreKindergarten 4 - 8th grade)
In a weekly 30 minute private music lesson, students will receive one-on-one instruction in playing techniques, repertoire, musicality, sight-reading and music theory.  Students will be introduced to music of various styles and historical periods, and learn to perform them on the piano in a progressive manner. Daily practice is encouraged.
