PS: THE VALUE Advantage
We know that there are excellent choices for independent education in Houston, and we recognize the sacrifices they require. Here at Presbyterian School, we take these sacrifices very seriously, so despite pioneering programs in the fields of 1:1 technology integration, experiential education, and partnerships within the Museum District, our tuition remains at or near the bottom of the Houston independent school market.
Moreover, we do not charge additional fees for students to have these singular, cutting-edge experiences. Unlike many of our peer schools, at PS there are no tacked-on charges for essential elements of our service to you, such as technology, fine arts, athletics, class trips, field trips, or extended care (to name just a few). Here, one price covers your child's second-to-none educational experience during the class day with additional programming available before and after school until 4:30 p.m., if you need it.
Take a minute and explore below what our "Value Advantage" offers in your one tuition payment. We believe this commitment to value is in keeping with our mission of partnership and trust, and we are so grateful for your interest in what we have to offer.
Technology & Textbooks
Our students are digital learners in a dynamic and exciting age. Because we feel that technology is emerging as our children's generation's best tool for learning, we do not charge additional fees for our students to use it in its many forms. We maintain an environment with schoolwide wireless technology, iPads, iPad docking carts, mounted projectors, Smart Boards, Apple TV, online access to hundreds of reources, subscriptions and databases and much, much more because that's the right thing to do for learners in the current age. SmartBoards are located in every Early Childhood and Lower School classroom, and iPads are readily available in EC centers and LS classroom carts. Beginning in 4th grade, we offer a 1:1 iPad program for all students through their 8th grade year. Students and teachers use technology every day to facilitate, enhance, and demonstrate learning. Projects are created, homework submitted, and textbooks read on iPads. Click on the above link to read our Technology Bits & Bytes blog.
PS has unparalleled access to an abundance of world-class arts resources that are utilized throughout the school day- whether it's taking a class at the Glassell School of Art immediately adjacent to our Main Street campus, exploring creative writing through our in-school partnership with Writers in the Schools, or making connections between literature and art at the Museum of Fine Arts right across Bissonnet street. Students also explore the arts through their weekly art and music classes, interdisplinary projects, grade level exhibitions, school wide programs, elective classes, school choirs, and much, much more! At PS the emphasis in athletics in on participation, so beginning in the 6th grade every student has the opportunity to play in a sport every season--no matter your previous participation or even your skill level. In addition to our two gymnasiums on the main campus, PS maintains a 14-acre outdoor education campus with two regulation-sized fields and an eight-lane track. Our partnerships with Positive Coaching Alliance, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Competiitve Edge Sports Trainings, and Methodist Hospital help us develop young athletes with healthy bodies, healthy minds, AND healty souls. Field Trips & Class Trips
All students regularly participate in field trips during the school year... some are as close as across the street at the Museum of Fine Arts, while some are as far away as the Renaissance Festival in Todd Mission, Texas. These trips off campus offer opportunities for teachers to reinforce a concept taught, bring to life a lesson, or simulate a real-life circmstance. In addition, all middle school students participate in an overnight class trip at increasing distances from Houston and offering increasing physical and spiritual challenges. These overnight class trips challenge students to explore and push themselves past their physical, emotional, and spiritual limitations. Click on the above link to read more about our class trips.
The Extended Day
The School day extends before morning drop-off at 8 a.m. and beyond afternoon dismissal at 3:15 p.m. Students may come as early as 7:15 a.m. and leave at 4:30 p.m. for no additional charge. We believe in the value of an extended day at Presbyterian School to accomodate working parents' schedules and to expose our students to more experiences in the arts, technology, sciences, and sports.
