Taylor Miller (Class of ’07) currently a senior marketing major at SMU, plans to graduate early in order to focus full time on her jewelry company, Hazen LLC. Miller was 9 years old and in third grade at Presbyterian School when she started designing jewelry; 12 years old when she first went to market and now ten plus years later, she has managed to make Hazen a thriving and profitable company. Miller credits her marketing courses for helping grow her company. Her professor noted her ability to “successfully run a company with a clear vision while maintaining an excellent academic record.” Miller is currently focused on the first steps of implementing her 5 year business plan. We look forward to watching Hazen, LLC continue to grow! Check out her website at www.hazenjewelry.com.
Catherine Hay (PS Class of 2007) and Allie Luther (PS Class of 2009) ran the Chevron Houston Marathon on January 13th. Through the cold, rain and wind, Catherine finished in 04:31:55, ranking 6th in her division (Females 16-19). Allie Luther finished in 04:36:04, ranking 7th in her division (Females 16-19).
Catherine's first introduction to running was from being a part of the track team at Presbyterian School, but her love for running didn't develop until late in high school at St. John's. She shared her love for running with Ms. Cox, Assistant Head of Middle School at Presbyterian School. They ran together over the summer before she headed to college. This was Catherine's first marathon, but she has completed three half-marathons before. She had to overcome an ankle injury in order to run the marathon and was in physical therapy for four months. Catherine commented, "It felt so rewarding to finally be able to finish the race after all the hard work and training I put in." She plans on running another marathon this year and hope to run the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco.
Allie played field hockey, soccer and lacrosse at Presbyterian School. Her love for running didn't start until high school at Episcopal where she was on the cross country and track team. This was her second marathon to run and she hopes to run another one in the next few years. Allie commented, "All of the hours of training were so worth it on that day! It feels so good to be cheered on throughout the race and crossing the finish line felt amazing!"
We are proud of Catherine and Allie for finding something they love, setting goals and conquering them through hard work and dedication. We want to extend a big congratulations to them for finishing the marathon!
