Hugh Zabriskie '08 speaks at inaugural TEDxYouth Event

Hugh Zabriskie ’08 spoke at the inaugural TEDxYouth event in Houston on November 20. Hugh explained the inspiring idea behind his original jazz composition. Hugh gathered three musicians from the Houston area to perform his orginal work and spoke at the conference about the process of assembling this team and the discovery of sounds once his work was played. Hugh spoke about how he feels music is a conversation between musicians and particularly in jazz because there is so much improvisation. Among the musicians Hugh found to play his piece, was Noe Marmolejo, director of jazz ensembles at the University of Houston. Noe loved the piece so much that he asked Hugh if the University of Houston jazz musicians could perform the original music at an upcoming event. We look forward to seeing what Hugh composes in the future!
