Presbyterian School jumped right into election season—PS Style! In an effort to educate all Presbyterian School students about the unique electoral process that characterizes presidential politics in the United States, the School will hold its own election on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
In keeping with the theme of the School's last election cycle in 2020, we will again run a candidate from the Savory Party against one from the Sweet Party for the coveted office of President of PS Snack. After a hotly-contested (pun intended) primary season, PIZZA ("A snack, A meal: ALL DAY APPEAL") has emerged as the standard bearer for the Savories while DOUGHNUT ("Hot or Cold: ALWAYS BOLD") will represent the Sweeties.
Over 800 faculty, staff, trustees, and students PK3 through 8th grade will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite PS Snack on November 5. Every vote counts! Each homeroom and advisory class, along with department offices and the Board of Trustees, have been assigned a state with the corresponding electoral votes.
Before Election Day there is lots for our PS Presidential Snack Candidates to do on the campaign trail and a lot for our students to consider as they decide which candidate and party to support. Current polling suggests that this 2024 election will be a tight race. Early voting and absentee voting will be available for any constituent who is unable to make it in-person to a PS voting booth on November 5.
The following ads have been endorsed and paid for by the Savory and Sweet Parties respectively. The views and opinions expressed are those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions of the School.
Historic Presidential Debate
The FIRST EVER televised debate between the candidates for this year’s PS Snack President has been recorded! In this highly anticipated "dough-down," Pizza from the Savory Party faced off against Doughnut from the Sweet Party in their first-ever "crust-to-glaze" meeting. Rumor has it, it was also their first time meeting "out-of-oven." The debate took place in Houston, TX in the historic First Presbyterian Church Library moderated by Dr. Mark Carleton. This significant matchup is now available for your viewing pleasure!
Please watch this important exchange of ideas between our two candidates and feel free to share it with friends and family across the globe—this election is really heating up!
Early Voting Begins as Town Halls Gather
Now a week after the debate between Pete Za and Doughnut, viewers all over the globe are weighing their options and themselves as a result.
Personal campaigning is at an all-time high as students, parents, faculty, and staff have been spotted wearing campaign apparel, buttons, and grease stains all over campus. Every vote counts in Election 2024, and party members are doing their best to get out the vote!
PS voters are demanding answers to their tough questions from each snack Presidential candidate. In an effort to address these questions, Head of School, Dr. Mark Carleton, hosted two town halls for third grade students earlier this week. Asking the hard questions, Dr. Carleton pressed the candidates for answers. Watch the town hall meetings in video links shared below.
As undecided Lower School voters gathered for town halls, Middle School students showed up in record numbers for early voting with centers opening today for all 6th-8th grade students to cast their votes. Early voting returns will be shared on election day when all votes are counted and re-counted to ensure accuracy.
Early Childhood, Lower School, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to cast in-person votes on election day on November 5.

And To All... A Good Election!
What a fun, exciting, and enlightening two weeks it has been for our community as we have explored together the complexities and wonder of the electoral process in America. Be sure to engage with your Panthers about how this voting experience has affected them. What did they learn? For which candidate did they ultimately vote? What was the deciding factor in their choice?
This is our fourth PS Election, and we are hearing from our Alumni that the voting experience at PS helped to prepare them for their own early voting experiences in the "real world." Here's hoping that will prove to be true for our voters in this cycle as well.
Until next time...good voting and good snacking to all of Presbyterian School!
