What Are Core Value Houses? Core Value Houses are groups that include students from all middle school grades, creating a diverse mix of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. This approach is a move away from prior year’s squad format to promote a greater sense of unity and cross-grade camaraderie. Students will remain in the same house throughout their middle school journey, allowing them to build long-lasting relationships and a stronger sense of belonging within their school community.
What Will the Houses Do Together? Throughout the year, houses will engage in various activities that align with the school's core values. Key among these are the Value House competitions, scheduled for September 4, February 26, and April 9, where students will participate in friendly contests designed to strengthen bonds and encourage teamwork. The houses will also play a central role in school assemblies, where students will explore what each core value means to them. Additionally, these values will be a critical part of the election process for the Student Senate.
A Purposeful Grouping The creation of these mixed-grade houses aims to bring together students from different grades for meaningful community-building events. Building on last year's squads, the new houses are woven into the very fabric of the school by being centered around our core values. This initiative not only promotes inter-grade friendships but also deepens students’ understanding and appreciation of our school's fundamental principles and values.
Aligning Activities with Core Values Students will have opportunities to engage in activities that correlate with their house's core value. Whether through assemblies, Student Senate activities, or other events, these houses will encourage students to live out and internalize the values that represent their school.
We are excited to see how our students will grow and thrive within their new Core Value Houses! Stay tuned for more updates as the year unfolds, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this initiative will have on our school community.
