With the anticipation and excitement of the upcoming season, PS Faculty and Staff are game day ready and have a history of going all out. College Colors Day is as much a part of the cultural fabric of the season as turkey and stuffing. From categories such as Rookies of the Year, Future Fan Club, and MVP, creativity knows no bounds. The assortment of unique trophies reflective of each winner's identity does make for beautiful desktop decor, after all.
While technically a week later than the national event, we wanted to ensure that all of our contestants were able to participate. Every year, PS leans into one of the very concepts we teach students every day. College Colors Day brings with it Think.Make.Talk. in action with creative, fun, and pizzaz. With the rivalry challenge being bumped up a notch this year, there were definitely some all-nighters chock-full of hot glue and glitter with hopes of winning the grand prize. Leaning into our core value of compassion, contestants were asked to throw out the long-standing prejudices surrounding some of their rivals and instead, were asked to work WITH each other this year aiming for the coveted prize.
This day is not for the faint of heart and is usually a fun welcome to all of the new faculty and staff, as it often demonstrates the true competitiveness that resides at our very cores. But even those who bleed their alma mater colors through and through were seen showing respect and admiration to their counterparts.
At the end of the day, the shirts will be washed, costumes packed up, and maybe a little reminiscence about the good ol’ days of college shared among colleagues. With veterans taking the rookies under their wings, they came early, were prepared, and brought their “A” game.
